Step 1: Choose a Business Name

• Income Tax: You will need to register for income tax as a provisional taxpayer and file provisional tax returns twice a year.
• Value-Added Tax (VAT): If your business's annual turnover exceeds R1 million, you will need to register for VAT and file VAT returns every two months.
• Pay-as-you-earn (PAYE): If you have employees, you will need to register for PAYE and deduct and pay over employees' income tax and other payroll taxes to SARS.

You can register for taxes online through SARS eFiling or in-person at a SARS branch.

Step 5: Obtain any required licenses or permits

Depending on the nature of your business, you may need to obtain licenses or permits from the relevant authorities. For example, if you are starting a restaurant, you will need to obtain a health and safety permit from your local municipality.
